The
department faculty includes 19 professors and 51 associate professors,
of which 7 are PH.D supervisors. It has 3 Bachelor's degree programs,
i.e. Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, Information and Computing Science,
Statistics, 4 Master's degree programs, 1 Doctor's degree program and
1 Post-Doctoral mobile station.
The Department of Mathematics of HUST was founded in 1980, whose predecessor
is the teaching and research section of Mathematics of the basic course
ministry of HUST. It owns one Doctoral Program for probability and statistics
and three master's programs for applied mathematics, probability and statistics,
computing mathematics.
There are eighty-five teachers and workers on duty, among whom sixteen
staffs are professors (including three tutors of doctor), thirty-six associate
professors, thirteen lecturers, seven assistant professors, and thirteen
cadres.
The Department of Mathematics is a harmony-fighting collectivity with
excellent tradition and well style of work, also with great achievement
and reputation.
Now that it has unceasingly developed and expanded with great achievement
in teaching and research and good progress, the department whose prospect
is considerable is praised in the field of mathematics.
Its' general aim of construction and development is:
1. Based on the Doctoral Program of probability and statistics and three
master's program of applied mathematics, probability and statistics, computing
mathematics. It will develop the construction of discipline and specialty
and set up a learning group with high quality that mainly consists of
learning core of younger and middle age.
2. Lay equal stress on applied research and basic research and strives
to gain some research fruit with great world influence and make some field
become advance ranks in our country.
3. Adjust and reform the applied mathematics specialty and broaden the
special specification to be adapted to the need for talent of the national
construction.
4. Take active part in the teaching research and reform, renewing the
teaching contents and methods, composing new textbooks with high quality,
offering teaching experiment lessons and CAI (Computer Assistant Instruction).
