Professor Joe Chicharo Became Visiting Professor of HUST

 

On April 30th, Dr. Joe Chicharo, dean of Information Technology School of Wollongong University, Australia, as well as the chairman of Club for Deans of Schools of Information and telecommunication in Australia Universities, was employed as a visiting professor of our university. The awarding ceremony was presided by Li Hao, director of International Exchange Center with participants such as Zhu Yuquan, Chairman of HUST Committee, Chen Qiusheng, vice director of International Exchange Center and so on.

Before the ceremony, Mr. Zhu had a friendly conversation with Professor Joe Chicharo, in which Mr. Zhu showed grateful gratitude to the contribution the latter had made and sincere wish to further promote the cooperation between the two universities.

In the ceremony, Professor Wang Shu, director of Department of Telecommunication, gave a brief introduction to Professor Joe Chicharo’s academic achievements and status. Professor Joe Chicharo is an authoritative expert in telecommunication and information technology in Australia and has made great contribution in these fields, publishing more than 200 academic papers in top-class international journals and conferences. He has been dedicating to the development of the two universities’ cooperative relations. With his support, Department of Telecommunication has carried out a series of cooperation with the Information Technology School of Wollongong University, including international education program and scientific and research cooperation.

Professor Joe Chicharo received the award from Mr. Zhu and officially became our university’s visiting professor. He expressed that he was quite honored to be our university’s visiting professor. In China, it was HUST who first established a cooperative relationship with Wollongong University. Every time their president talked about overseas exchange and cooperation, he would proudly mention that with HUST. Meanwhile, Professor Joe Chicharo also thought highly of HUST students. He said that although there were foreign students from many countries and regions, students from HUST, in his eyes, were unique and outstanding among excellent students.

Professor also delivered a speech on the 69th Scientific Spirit and Practice Lecture upon invitation on April, 29th.
