In the afternoon of April. 25 2008, Mr. Michael Schaefer, German ambassador to China and Frau Schaefer, as well as other two officials paid a special visit to Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. Prof. Zhu Yuquan, the Chairman of University Affairs Committee of HUST, and Prof. Qiu Fazu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Honorary Dean of Tongji Medical College(TJMC) met them.

Prof. Zhu addressed a welcome speech and made a brief introduction of the university, expressing the sincere hope that the delegation can get a full understanding of HUST and promote academic and cultural exchanges and cooperation between HUST and Germany.

Prof. Qiu Fazu made an introduced of the history of TJMC and the long friendship between TJMC and Germany, and the friendly exchanges with some German universities. Prof. Qiu revealed that Mr. Michael Schaefer was the fourth ambassador to TJMC and hoped him visit here more in future.

Mr. Michael Schaefer expressed his delights and honor for the visit and the importance he had always attached to the cultural exchanges between China and Germany. Since Wuhan has been chosen as the site for the coming activity “Germany-China Hand in Hand”,he would like to welcome Chinese scholars and students to join in for a discussion in depth on the topic of urbanization and environmental protection.

Both sides exchanged presents and took group photos.

After meeting, Mr. Michael Schaefer and his colleagues visited Square of Dr. Erich Paulum and affiliated Tongji Hospital, with Prof. Zhu Yuquan and Prof. Qiu. Fazu accompanied.
