Presently, the projects evaluation of the 2004 National Natural Science Fund has revealed that HUST has got 181 projects approved with a total fund of 44.18 million yuan, among which 6 of the 28 applied key projects have been approved with a fund totaling 8.6 million.

Among the projects approved by the National Natural Science Fund this year, 10 belongs to the section of mathematics and physics with a fund of 4.09 million yuan; the section of chemistry has 8 projects with a fund of 1.68 million; the section of life science has 105 projects with a fund of 25.90 million; the section of engineering and material 28 projects with a fund of 7.13 million; the section of information science 19 projects with 3.94 million and the section of management science 11 projects with 1.44 million.

It is known that HUST got 128 projects funded by the 2003 National Natural Science Fund with 30.338 million yuan.

The State Commission for National Natural Science Fund is responsible for the applications and organization of the appraisal. The funds are used to sponsor the basic research and part of the applied research of natural science, to discover and cultivate scientific and technological talents, to promote the improvement of science and technology and the development of economy and society.
