After two years of construction, the building of Wuhan National Laboratory for Opto-electronics was formally put into use on the 2nd of November.
Luo Qingquan, Governor of Hubei Province, Miao Wei, Secretary of Municipal Party Committee, leaders from Ministry of Information Industry, Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Education and the provincial and municipal governments concerned attended the opening ceremony.
Academician Li Peigen, President of HUST and Director-general of the Council of Wuhan National Laboratory for Opto-electronics delivered the salutatory. Academician Ye Zhaohui, Director of the laboratory introduced the construction of the building, the Research Division, the team construction and the operation and the system in his speech.
Wuhan National Laboratory for Opto-electronics is one of the five largest national laboratories sponsored by Ministry of Science & Technology, Ministry of Education and Chinese Academy of Sciences and is an important part of national technology innovation system and an innovation research base for Wuhan Optics Valley of China. The total investment of the laboratory is RMB 450 million Yuan and the total floor area is 45000m2. Stone Laying Ceremony of the Building was held in Oct 2003.
Governments of all levels paid much attention for the construction of Wuhan National Laboratory for Opto-electronics. Ministry of Education had drawn RMB 0.1 billion Yuan from “985 Phase II Project” for the platform construction of the laboratory and another RMB 0.16 billion Yuan was collected by the provincial and municipal governments and our university together, in which RMB 60 million from the provincial and municipal governments.
As the headstream of technology innovation of national opto-electronics and information industry base, Wuhan National Laboratory for Opto-electronics will be mainly engaged in the fundamental research of application background, devoting to strategic and forward-looking research on the front line of international science and providing strong support for the solution of the key scientific issues in the development of opto-electronics industry.
