On the 30th of Oct, leaders of all levels, distinguished guests from our brother universities and colleges and alumnus from all parts of China gathered in the Academic Report Hall to celebrate the establishment of School of Foreign Languages and the 25th Anniversary of Foreign Languages Department.
Surrounding by ardent applause, President Li Peigen unveiled the nameplate for School of Foreign Languages. Prof. Fan Weiwei, Dean of the School, introduced the history and the achievement of the School over the years.
Foreign Languages Department was established in August 1980. In 1986, Master degree for the specialty of Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics was established, which was one of a few engineering universities and colleges offering Master degree in the specialty of foreign language at the time. The specialty of Japanese Language and English Language Literature were set up respectively in 1997 and 2003. After the University merging, Foreign Language Teaching & Researching Sections of other two component colleges merged into School of Foreign Languages in July 2005. Now, There are totally 237 faculty in the School, in which 14 Professors, 67 Associate Professors and 97 instructors. They are in charge of foreign language teaching for over 5000 postgraduates and 200,000 undergraduates in HUST.
In his speech, Prof. Zhu Yuquan, Chairman of the University Committee, delivered his congratulations for the establishment of the School and confirmed the achievement the School has made over the years, encouraging the School to make greater contribution to the cultivation of qualified persons of foreign language and the development of the University. Prof. Du Qinggang, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Wuhan University, conveyed his congratulations representing local brother universities. In his speech, he expressed his hope that brother universities can enhance the cooperation and carry out a healthy competition, making contribution to the rising of Hubei Province and the cultivation of qualified persons of foreign languages and deepening the reform and development of foreign language education.
