From the 14th to the 17th of June 2007, the 5th international conference of International Institute for General Systems Studies was held in International Exchange Center of HUST. This conference was organized by the International Institute for General Systems Studies in cooperation with IIGSS-China Branch and Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
Ouyang Kang, Deputy party secretary of the school, Liu Wei, vice president of Hust and four well-known academicians including Yang Shuzi, Xiong Youlun, Zhang Yongchuan attended the opening ceremony. On behalf of the school, Liu Wei delivered a greeting speech for the conference.
　　
The conference consultants and members of the Organizational Committee came from 16 countries and regions such as China, the United States, Britain, Germany, Japan, Russia, Australia, Poland, Greece and some others. H.Haken(Germany),the Association founder, R. Vallee (France), General President of the World Cybernetics and Systems Organization and B. Bos (USA) had delivered congratulatory messages to the conference. M. Jackson (UK), K. Kaczorel (Poland), A. N. (Germany), Y. Takahara (Japan), J. Y. Lin Forrest (USA), T. Habtemariam (USA), E. Zafeiris (Greece), M. X. Wu (China), Jun Wang(HK) and some other well-known international scholars had given brilliant academic reports in the conference.

The conference had received more than 700 articles among which more than 390 papers were accepted. More than 260 representatives participated in this conference from 16 countries and regions including China, the United States, Britain, Germany, Japan, Russia, Australia, Poland, Greek and many others. The representatives discussed intensively on frontier academic issues of System Science. They generally reflected that the conference was very successful and it achieved the goal of exchanging academic ideas and promoting friendship. At the same time it also furthered the impact of our school.
　
It is learned that the Systems Studies is one of greatest scientific achievements in the last century. American International General Systems Studies, short for IIGSS, was founded correspondingly (founded in January of 1994 in Pennsylvania of the United States). IIGSS and its journals (Advances in Systems Science and Applications, short for ASSA) has attracted more than 30 internationally renowned scholars, such as,L. A. Zadeh. R. E. Kalman, G. J. G., M. D. Mesarovic. Y. Takahara, J. Casti, J. Y. Lin Forrest, Carl Y. Ma, V. BurKov, W. Wymore, V. Tsurkov, and H. Zimmerman. IIGSS had successfully held four international academic conferences since 1995.
