Congratulations to Chen Zhifeng, the Global Champaign in Personal Project of Microsoft “Imagine Cup” Competition

On August 10th, In Walker Hill conference hall in the capital of Korea, the rewarding meeting of the global Microsoft 2007 “Imagine Cup” finals was held as scheduled. Students from China outstood in the finals and won 4 prizes, making China one of the countries winning the most prizes.

More than 7000 Chinese students from 150 universities took part in the competition. In the finals, a sophomore Chen Zhifeng from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) won the first prize in IT project competition. FrontfreeStudio-UI team from Beijing University of Technology won the second prize in Interface Design.

“We can also change the world!”

The first prize winner in IT project Chen Zhifeng comes from School of Environmental Engineering of HUST. The fact that he is a non-computer specialty student surprised us all. In fact, there is a spontaneously organized team in HUST called “Innovation Team”, whose members are all computer fans. Chen Zhifeng is one of the geniuses from the team. When he was a freshman, he participated in Microsoft “Imagine Cup”Competition and won No.8 prize.

The president of HUST, being academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering Li Peigen was the only expert invited to the global finals from education realm. What impressed him most was that the competition greatly inspired students’potential, and that exactly complied with his advocation of education pattern in universities in China. He said:“The fact that so many Chinese university students participate in such a world-class competition and have achieved such good results demonstrates that students’learning pattern has changed in some universities in china. HUST contestants are self-organized. They now have a better understanding on how to learn creatively, actively and learn in practice. This is really a favorable phenomenon arising in Chinese higher education.”
