The Third George Bush China-U.S. Relations Conference

 

The Third China-U.S. Relations Conference was held in Washington D.C., the capital city of U.S. with co-sponsorship of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Taxes A&M University, the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, George Bush government and Public Affairs Institution. Professor Ouyang Kang, the Vice President of HUST attended the conference and delivered speeches at higher education forum and the roundtable session for students’ affairs.

It is said that China-U.S. Relations Conference is nongovernmental exchange of the highest level between Chinese and U.S. Themed as “Development, Energy, Security”, the conference involves extensive fields such as sustainable development of agriculture, energy, security, public health, higher education, personnel exchanges, military cooperation, trade and investment, China-U.S. polar region cooperation, deepwater technology, relations between global climate variability and coastal ecosystem change, etc. Chinese representatives led by former Minister Li Zhaoxing and US representatives led by former president George Bush attended the conference and delivered speeches . With great diversification, the conference consisted of not only dozens of conference reports but also seven forums and eight roundtable sessions.

With the theme “21 Century Global University: Opportunity and Challenge”, the Higher Education Forum consisted of nine Chinese universities including Peking University, Tongji University, Huazhong University of Science & Technology etc and ten US universities including Texas A&M University, University of Missouri, The University of Georgia etc. Professor Ouyang Kang delivered an English speech , How to Promote Cooperation among International Universities. His emphasis on six regards to promote the cooperation, i.e. academic interests, research taste, expense support, government policies, research management and cross-cultural understanding, aroused great interests and discussion.

At the Roundtable session for students’ affairs, whose theme was “To complete administration mechanism for students’ affairs and improve capability to implement projects”, Ouyang Kang talked about “Cultural-quality-oriented Education and Comprehensive Development of University Students”, introducing the development course oncultural-quality-oriented education in Chinese universities as well as in HUST.

After the conference, Professor Ouyang Kang was invited to give an academic report on “China’s Philosophy Contribution in the Era of Globalization” in US Value and Philosophy Research Association. Also, during his stay in Washington D.C., he met Dr. Wang Xiang, the leader of HUST alumni association in Washington D.C. and introduced HUST’s recent development.
