Great Achievements in the 10th Challenge Cup

 

On Nov. 19th, the results of the 10th Challenge Cup of National Competition of Chinese College Students' Extracurricular Academic and Scientific Achievements was revealed, in which Dongnan University won the Challenge Cup with the highest team score. Out university has won the Trophy Cup with 7th high team score, which is the highest in Hubei province, and the project of Multichannel Ultrasonic Wave Nondestructive Detecting System of Team Dian has won the top prize.

From Nov. 15th to 19th, the final of the 10th Challenge Cup was held in Nankai University. There were many pieces of achievements from 343 universities of mainland, 25 universities of Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan, as well as 6 universities from overseas. After strict analysis and judgment, 25 pieces of achievements have won the top prize, 84 the first prize, 226 the second prize and 605 the third prize. About 100 experts in different disciplines picked up 953 pieces out of the 1165 pieces in the preliminary stage into the final, in which more than 80 experts has attended.

Our university, led by vice chairman of HUST Committee, picked out 6 pieces of achievements to participate in the competition. Among those 6 pieces, A New-type Electric Obstacle Stair-climbing Wheelchair won the first prize, Adaptive General Charger and System of Nematode Automatic Tracking Behavior Analysis and Its Application in Gene and Behavior Relation Research won the second prize, and Monitoring System of Optic Fiber Peripheral Alert and Laser Night Vision Linkage, Intelligent Instrument for Non-ladder-ascending in Line Detection of Line Insulator Running Situation won the third prize.

The top prize, Multichannel Ultrasonic Wave Nondestructive Detecting System , can be applied in engineering fields, such as ground, oil exploration, railway and water conservancy, by adopting chip integrated ARM920T kernel embedded microprocessor of high performance and low power consumption and providing diverse peripheral interfaces. The system boasts of a capability of multichannel parallel collecting and processing and a high operating efficiency, and thus can give a much more precise orientation of project defects. While improving the quality of project detection, it, which has won the national patent, also weakens the intensity of labor and improve the overall efficiency, enjoying an extensive market prospect and a strong competitiveness in the market。

The first prize, A New-type Electric Obstacle Stair-climbing Wheelchair, adopts the improved planet wheel structure, innovative guiding wheel structure and the equipment for seat-posture detection and adjustment, overcomes the defect in obstacle performance of the present wheelchair and therefore enhances the physical performance of the handicapped. The new type wheelchair can overcome some small obstacles and climb stairs, easy to operate, safe and ease in use. It, which has also won a national patent, can help to enlarge the handicapped people's range of activity and improve their life quality.
