Awarding Ceremony for Honorary Professor Walter Willett and Academic Report |

On the afternoon of Dem.10th, awarding ceremony for honorary professor Walter Willett and academic report was held in Tongji Medical College. Dr. Walter Willett is an internationally renowned nutritionist, and director of Department of Nutrition of School of Public Health of Harvard University. President of HUST Li Peigen, Standing deputy secretary of the party committee of HUST, Dean of Tongji Medical College Feng Youmei, and other 200 teachers and students attended the ceremony . Dean of School of Public Health of HUST Wu Tangchun presided the ceremony and introduced the achievement of Dr. Walter Willett. President Li Peigen issued him letter of appointment. Professor Walter Willett has achieved remarkable accomplishment in the influence upon chronical diseases imposed by diet and nutrition. More than 1000 research papers have been published, concerning mainly the risk of heart diseases and cancer brought by life style. Moreover, he is author of a textbook about nutritional epidemic published by Oxford University Press. He wrote Harvard Healthy Eating Guide which later became one of the bestsellers. Universally recognized as one of the five most famous experts, Professor Walter Willett has won many prizes of both national and international level, eg. Mott prize awarded by General Motto, Linus Pauling Nutriology Prize, David E. Rogers Prize by AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges), Prize of Bristol-Myers/Mead Johnson, etc. Health Research for the Cohort Study of Nurses was established with professor Willett’s research, and this research has consistently covered 300,000 individuals in 18 years, obtaining convincible results for the influence upon heart disease, cancer, and chronical disease imposed by diet and life style. In professor Willett’s report, large amount of data has proved that 90% chronical disease such as cancer, diabetes and coronary heart disease can be efficiently prevented by healthy diet and life style. |
