Delegate from University of Pretoria, South Africa Visited HUST

 

On April, 23rd, President Li Peigen held a reception in honor of the delegate from university of Pretoria, South Africa in Building 1. Members in the delegate were Mr. Dhesioen Naidoo, director of Scientific Research Office of University of Pretoria, Professor Kuku Voyi, dean of School of Labor and Environment Hygiene of University of Pretoria, and our university’s visiting professor, Xia Xiaohua.

In the reception, president Li Peigen, extended warm welcome to the guests coming from afar, gave a brief introduction to our university and exchanged ideas in energy utilization, public health, traditional medicine and the cultivation of science and technology students with them. The delegate showed their gratitude to our university’s reception and wished to establish a partnership with Chinese universities by this opportunity. They also mentioned that it is the 100th anniversary of the founding of University of Pretoria this year and invited our president to visit their university at his most convenience. President Li expressed his appreciation to their invitation. Present in the reception also were leaders of International Affairs Center, Office of Science and Technology, and leaders of relevant schools of HUST.

Later, Mr. Dhesioen Naidoo and Professor Kuku Voyi paid a visit to Tongji Medical College. Qu Shen, the Chairman of TongjIi Medical College Committee, met them and extended warm welcome to them on behalf of the dean of Tongji Medical College. He introduced the college’s history and the achievements it had accomplished in scientific research and teaching during recent years. Both parties exchanged ideas extensively in epidemic diseases, native medicine and herbal medicine, etc, of common interests.

The two parts had gained a better understanding of each other, promoted the friendship and discussed about cooperative intentions, opening up a new prospect for the two universities’ cooperation through the conversation, after which, the delegate visited the School of Pubic Health.

University of Pretoria was founded in 1908 and it is one of the oldest and largest comprehensive universities in South Africa, breaking down into 10 schools, 158 department and 45 research centers. There are more than 2200 foreign students from more than 60 countries among its total 40000 students. The university has been awarded as one that have gained the most research achievements by National Ministry of Education of South Africa for successive ten years.
