Nine teams made up of twenty-seven students from HUST achieved satisfactory result in the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (IMC) for College Students in the United States under the guidance of three teachers, Gao Liang (from School of Mechanical Science & Technology), Dong Yan (from Department of Electronics and Information Engineering), Mei Zhengyang (from Department of Mathematics), Shi Ke (from School of Computer Science & Technology) and Qiu Haobo (from School of Mechanical Science & Technology).

The team of Li Cai (from Department of Mathematics enrolled in 2005), Wang Bo (from Department of Electronics and Information Engineering enrolled in 2006) and Zhen Jia (from Department of Electronics and Information Engineering enrolled in 2005) won Meritorious Winners under the guidance of Dong Yan, Which is the best award in ICM in the history of HUST. In addition, the other eight teams won three Honorable Mentions and five Successful Participants.
